#256: Comfort, Comfort Now My People
Oct. 27th, 2020 10:41 pmThis is a previously-mentioned syncopated melody that doesn't really have measures; this version includes a harmonization.
The interesting turn of phrase for me is in the third verse: "For the glory of the Lord now on earth is shed abroad." What I think they're trying to say is that now God's glory is being shown to all the nations, Jews and Gentiles, and the word order is weird to force the rhyme (?) of Lord/abroad. But I instinctively want to offset "now on Earth." Like, "the glory--which is now on Earth--is being shed abroad." Is it being shed farther abroad than the Earth? Where else is it being shed?? (I guess the Star of Bethlehem has some cosmological implications.)
