The harmonization is just for the verses and feels a little redundant, it's mostly the same major chord. I think we would have been fine with just the melody, since the refrain already is that.
There are other verses not included here, maybe it's one of those folk songs that had lots of different variants? One of them begins "When I was a seeker/I sought both night and day..." which would be a good Harry Potter parody.
