Neat harmonization in the refrain; it starts out as just melody (and optional alto), and then the other parts come in one by one.

The story my mom tells about this song is that she quibbled about "why are we singing this on Christmas Eve, it says 'born this happy morning' right there," and one of her colleagues said "when Jesus is born, it's always morning." "Excellent point."
