#282: It Came upon the Midnight Clear
Aug. 25th, 2020 11:22 pmThere is a lot to like about this song (although not a very interesting alto part):
-when I was in fifth or sixth grade and a newbie saxophone player, I (attempted to) play it for the instrumental portion of the kids' Christmas program at our church. I'm not sure why I/my teacher chose it, but I suspect it was the kind of hymn I enjoyed as a young kid because of the specificity of the clock hour in the title. I mean, you don't get a lot of "It Came At 8:30 PM." (Although there is a "Past Three O'Clock," hmmmm.)
-the hymn tune name is the amazingly generic "Carol." Okay.
-the text and the music are by guys named Sears and Willis respectively!!
