Composer has an excellent 1600s name, Matthäus Apelles von Löwenstern! There are also lots of feminine rhymes that are masculine rhymes in disguise, we get stuff like hurling/unfurling (amazingly not for the first time), and then "fails us/assails us/appalls us" (?). Actually this is the same meter as the linked song, and while that one had a "weird but unobtrusive" mess of time signatures, this is almost plainsong with no time signatures except the breaths between lines. I guess it's not really called plainsong when Protestants do it?
