#704: When Pain of the World Surrounds Us
Jan. 28th, 2020 10:04 pmThis is in F minor, which you don't see every day because it's not great for pianos (or strings, for that matter). I'm not really sure what the target accompaniment is, if any; there's only a melody printed (no harmony parts), and it seems a little, well, "lamentish" for a guitar/praise-ish arrangement. The "fear and trembling" phrase probably marks it as late-20th century, I feel like Kierkegaard made that one popular (to a niche audience, admittedly).
There's a little screwing around with word order to make the rhyme scheme work: "May we with steadfast caring the hungry children feed" is kind of a stretch.
This brings us to the end of the lament section! Don't worry, I'm sure there will be more depressing stuff elsewhere.
