#760: O Christ the Same
Nov. 1st, 2019 10:21 pmWhat key is it in?
D. But it starts and ends in D major, while jumping to D minor for a couple lines in between!
Is this the only tune it's associated with?
No; in a previous hymn it was sung to the tune of Danny Boy/Londonderry Air. I'm guessing that changed because that one is kind of hard to sing.
When is this sung?
My church growing up had a New Year's Eve service where they always sang this, because the verses talk about the past, present, and future.
Didn't people have better things to do on New Year's Eve?
Yes, which is why they eventually got rid of it.
Other than the passage of time, is there anything fun about the lyrics?
I like that it has not one but two phrases that could describe Jesus as an excellent goalie: "all your saving power" and "secure within whose keeping."
