#243: Lost in the Night
Jul. 23rd, 2019 10:31 pmWell...do the people who are lost in the night still languish?
Yes?
Is this unusually dark for an Advent hymn?
Not unusually, but I'd say definitely below-average (especially with the minor key). It overlaps with the "end time" stuff as well.
Who are the people who have light and aren't letting us borrow it?
That's from a parable Jesus told about wise bridesmaids (who brought oil for their lamps during a long wait for the reception) and foolish bridesmaids (who didn't). I guess we're being identified with the latter even though the level-one interpretation is normally "be like the former, people."
Is that the only possible translation for that?
Instead of "bridesmaids" some versions have "virgins," which lends itself to amusement.
