#758: You Are the Way

What is the overarching allusion?

Jesus describes himself as "the way, the truth, and the life" in the Gospel of John. This is a popular summary of his message (and also will start fights when people are like "well he didn't say he was the only way, exactly, or what that even means..."

Will this verse-by-verse expounding be the setup for other hymns?

Yes.

Is this a Luther original?

Nope, it was originally in English. Although the "to you alone"/"your word alone" give a little of that vibe. (I also don't think the Luther/1500s German guys had that many "recapitulation" verses at the end being like "as we just discussed, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.")
